Itinerary
DAY 1
This experience begins with departure from the urban perimeter of the city toward Cerro Kennedy. Passing through the road junction in Mamatoco, you will find a bridge that leads to Minca, El Campano, and the San Lorenzo ridge—picturesque trails full of nature located along the road to Cerro Kennedy, where a Colombian Army High Mountain Battalion base operates at 3,000 masl, making this a safe area for lovers of nature tourism. The mountain is ascended by vehicle for approximately 2 hours, providing full access to the humid and cloud forests of Sierra Nevada.
Along the way, you will see small coffee plantations, many wax palms, giant pines, and more than thirty small waterfalls that will completely captivate you.
After breakfast, you will hike with your luggage for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach one of the most refreshing bodies of water in the highlands: the Panku waterfall, a beautiful crystal-clear cascade where you will have free time to enjoy it.
Arrival at Kennedy is expected before noon. From the vehicles, you will continue on foot along a pleasant trail where you will be surrounded by the natural symphony of the forest for approximately 40 minutes, reaching the ecotourism farm where you will spend the first night.
After being assigned your room, lunch will be served, prepared with vegetables and fruits grown on the farm itself.
The farm offers breathtaking views of Sierra Nevada and the snow-capped Bolívar and Colón peaks. From afar, you can see the city, Ciénaga Grande of Santa Marta, the inlets of Tayrona National Natural Park, and the entire mountainous system that makes up the highest coastal mountain in Colombia, close to the shores of the Caribbean Sea.
The experience becomes even more fascinating when you feel you can almost touch the clouds by simply standing on the trails of the farm facing the snowy peaks. Nothing is more relaxing and privileged than watching the Caribbean sunset embraced by the cool breeze descending from the peaks, with soft winds that make Cerro Kennedy a hidden paradise in the mountains.
Back at the farm, dinner will be served, followed by rest. Don’t forget to set your alarm to catch the sunrise from the comfort of your room.
DAY 2
Waking up to a panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks (Bolívar and Colón) of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is a privilege granted by nature. The songs of endemic and migratory birds early in the morning, together with a cup of organic coffee in hand, make for the best way to start the day.
The sunrise in this natural setting, with fresh air in Kennedy, is an opportunity to reconnect with our inner peace while appreciating the beauty and lushness of the Sierra Nevada, one of Colombia’s lungs for the world.
